Six months after the death of Ian Curtis, New Order gave its 9th concert (the first outside England) in Rotterdam. Only a few hundred people came to this legendary performance in Hal 4. It was an exciting evening for the audience. Many of us had seen Joy Division in January 1980 and now this was the first New Order gig on the mainland. The support act was familiar, because they were The Minny Pops from Amsterdam. The Minny Pops were also the support act for Joy Division. Two months after this performance MP's would release their first single Dolphin's Spurt on the Factory label (fac 31). The first single from New Order (Ceremony / In a Lonely place) was released a month later, in March 1981. Actually, these were two Joy Division songs. |
